2021 Timothy Barber Scholarship Awardees
Wayne Action for Racial Equality is pleased to announce the 2021 Timothy Barber scholarship awards. Top honors of $1500 were awarded to Cynthia Black, Sodus High School and Jenna Manns, Clyde-Savannah High School. A third award of $1000 has been awarded to Camden Chance also from Clyde–Savannah High School. The higher education scholarships are given annually to African American graduating high school seniors who recognize that racism is a detriment to human development and are using their talents to ensure the equal rights of all to achieve their potential.
Cynthia Black is graduating from Sodus High School and plans to attend Syracuse University to study business law and communications and pursue a career incorporate law. While employed during her high school years, she also found time for Art Club, several Varsity sports as well as serving as Class President. Cynthia is particularly recognized for her integrity. She is conscious of the image of black women and by setting a positive example she provides inspiration to others.
Jenna Manns is graduating from Clyde-Savannah High School and plans to attend Rochester Institute of Technology to further her studies in math and become a professor or researcher. She is bilingual, a musician and loves to learn. Through her own journey, she hopes to learn how to demystify the learning process, thereby making education easy and accessible to others. Jenna sets an example for others via her own initiative and confidence as she enters a field not typically occupied by people of color.
Camden Chance is graduating from Clyde-Savannah High School and plans to attend SUNY Oswego to study computer science. This honor roll student also was named Player of the Year for his basketball skills. He is skilled at building computers and has coached other students. Camden is identified as a charismatic, well-rounded, talented and competent young man and is particularly recognized for his determination and perseverance to succeed.
